Yes. Though I had been planning to spring it on you while your hands were full so you couldn't angrily stalk off if you don't like what I have to say. You assassinate people and plans, I'll have to keep that in mind for next time.
[Apparently. Anyways he does, actually, need help. But also he's...tense. Can't help it. He doesn't want to be doing this. Should have done it weeks ago, but he didn't and now he has to and he likes it even less. He watches Bucky, but picks up a painting and holds it out.]
That said I do need an extra set of hands. Far wall, by the fire extinguisher.
[ But that's all he bothers with before he's taking the painting. Art is really more Steve's thing and Bucky doesn't really know art history at all, but he can tell that these painting are nice and Stark must have liberated them from somewhere fancy.
He takes it to the instructed wall, carrying it with more care than a man with his appearance has a right to. He might not know art, but he'd liked Steve's sketches and he gets that it's something worth taking care of. ]
[Baroque has hardly gone out of style and the painting Bucky's holding reflects that. Tony has a rich man's taste, what can he say. He is the 1%. Felt on the back of the painting keeps it from making noise as Bucky holds it up against the wall. Tony himself straigtens the frame to be level and then uses a caulking gun to ensure it'll stay in place. In a world where sound equals death he can't afford he precariousness of nails and hanging fixtures.
Of course, the camera lens no bigger than an eraser he pulls out of his pocket and affixes in one of the shadows of the painting where it blends in perfectly is another reason to not want the painting to move any time soon. He's not paranoid, just thorough, okay,]
I'd say I appreciate you helping me out, but we both kind of know we're doing these things for the wrong reasons and I don't want to talk about that. So. Let's talk about the Avengers. You've met them. Fought them, both with and against. I admit we're in a bad spot right now, but you kind of had something to do with that however against your will it might have been.
What I'm trying to say is you know what we do and: will you join up already? It's really awkward not bringing you in on team talks when I know Rogers will just give you the play-by-play later.
[ Bucky reads the words, making the appropriate faces of mild discomfort and then confusion and finally he has to really take a moment to look Stark in the eye. This is definitely not something he'd expected and not even where he'd thought that line of thought was going. He can't deny his involvement in those things or the fact that Steve probably would tell him everything. Guy's not exactly the best liar Bucky's ever known, either. ]
I need transparency. I won't be anyone's tool again.
[ He'd love to say he doesn't want to fight, but that might not be an option as long as they're here and he can't leave the people here in danger if there's something he can do about it. Following Steve is a given, too. If they do something, he wants to be there with them making sure that Steve and Wanda are safe. ]
[Tony doesn't exactly meet Bucky's gaze. At least not at first. It's not that he has something to hide, he doesn't. But this isn't exactly easy either.]
I'd say you're hardly a tool, as is. [He reaches up to rub at his ear, stalling. There are things only he can offer Bucky. And now's hardly the time to hold back.] You're already coded into F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s system. Did it weeks ago. So you tell me.
Can you participate as more than a tool? I'm going to look infinitely stupid giving you clearance if you don't even trust yourself, have to say.
[ The thing is that Bucky doesn't entirely trust himself. He figures Stark has to know why, too, but until someone shows up with those codes, Bucky seems to be relatively... disarmed. He'll still be on edge about it, though, until he's sure that they're gone from his brain.
He wants this, though. After Azzano, he'd followed Steve back into the war. There's really no question that he'll do it again now. Maybe he's an idiot or a glutton for punishment. He doesn't know, but he wants to help them and he wants to cover them in a fight if it comes down to it, even Stark. ]
