[Crackle, fizzle. Trying to keep this thing charged with thunder magic was just asking for trouble, but she was doing her best.]
Bucky, I'm checking to make sure you're ok. Since you scratched your name off the door, we haven't kept up well but with how this month gets... I worry.
We're... ok, it's fucking October. [She scowled. It was apparent in her voice.] I'm working to groom a second in command to handle logistics, but October tears any plans apart and we both know it. Lost contact with a few of the operatives. I believe one or two are dead, but we haven't confirmed, but we're keeping things more intact I think than last year.
Anyway, let me know if you're safe. And stay safe. It'll just be good to hear from you.
I'm safe enough. Just trying to keep the animals safe most of the time.
[ He huffs out a heavy breath. ]
I know FEAR's in good hands with you, but I live pretty close by if you hit any emergencies that I can help with. I'm still me. Can't let anyone get hurt on my watch if there's something I can do about it.
[There was audible relief when she replied to the message, laughter coming out a little tiredly in her voice.]
Good. I'm glad to hear it. Incidentally, thank you for saying that. I don't fault your choice. God this job... this place... it takes it out of you, but we don't need to be in FEAR to be heroes, and you will always be one. I know that.
I'm glad to hear you're intact. [She dragged her fingers through her hair and the laugh came through again.]
Hah. It's October. October's always hell. Communications go to shit. Blood and monsters everywhere. Agents turn into monsters. I'm trying to organize more clearly, but this month you know as well as I do how hard it is.
But... we're managing. There's some semblance of order, and once the month is done, we can pick up the pieces. Maybe when the month is done I can take a moment to breathe. To be a person again.
Yeah for now the best we can do is hunker down and try to help each other where we can, right? It's hard to take any time to be human when you're fighting just to stay alive.
[ And he really knows that from experience. ]
Also if anyone comes to you needing a safe space for a large outdoor animal, as long as it won't eat my goats, you can send them my way. I'm keep the whole backyard warded off.
As much as I want it to be otherwise, the reality is that really is all that we can do. October is a month to survive, not to plan for the future or explore the secrets of this town, searching for the solution to its mystery. Just... survive.
[Ngh. Don't they both?]
I'll have to remember that. Right now, nobody's asking. The cells getting used for people worried about transformations has come up a couple times. At least those grungy old rooms get some use.
Would love to know who the damned ghost in that place is one day.
I will. Trust me. With any luck, we won't need it, but I may call on you in due course. It's good to know that we can always call on and trust each other.
(OOC: She probably does contact him on the 26th for a little back up since she's checking up on someone that died to find out what happened with that whole "Woman in White" thing. But that can be handwaved, methinks.)

[ There's a sort of reluctant amusement to the statement. ]
But you'll tell me if you need help, right? I don't want you to think you can't ask.
