[it's still ridiculously early, though he's long since slipped out of bucky's bed to head out for his run. but barely half an hour in to it, and steve had ended up giving up completely. there's only so long he can avoid dealing with this, and as long as he still has his contracts with bucky and caitlin, the knows he needs to pay attention to those twenty-four hours.

[ Bucky isn't even sure how to answer at first. It feels like Steve's message hits him like a ton of bricks. It's too much and not enough and it only makes Bucky more scared that something will happen. ]

[whether bucky realizes it or not, those words are something he really needs to hear right now. it's enough to make him reaffirm his decision to hand himself in. to not fight his citation.

[which only helps reiterate the point to him that this really is the best way to manage the situation. if bucky's worrying over him going to "help a friend", who knows how it would've gone if he told him the truth.]
