you know I didn't have privacy for a long time and I managed my libido just fine without it.
[ The 40s were a time of creatively making privacy for Bucky. ]
where I'm staying for now, but I'm trying to help out with the rest of the cleanup, too. still have to figure out a job once the dust settles. been a while since I did anything in the private sector.
Military will force men and women to do creative things.
[And he was more than aware that the Soldier's libido had literally been frozen for years. Interesting to think there might actually be one now.]
People will skills like ours are useful, and if you look around, I'm sure some guard or security place will take you in. At worst, you become a jack-of-all-trades.
[ Bucky hopes his days of hurting people in general are behind him. He's not afraid to defend himself or fight for something he believes in, but he's so tired of fighting and he doesn't need any more things to feel guilty over in his life. ]
[Don't ask about his other philosophies. It will go poorly for all involved.]
Well, you and I aren't rolling on currency, so probably a favour or a dare or we could do the strip poker route. Military guys I know did that because we had no shame.
[ Bucky isn't exactly full of shame when it comes to his body, but he's a little self-conscious about the arm. People ask about it and it's harder to laugh it off with someone who might have a better idea of how he got it. He also knows better than to admit any of that. ]
dealer's choice. you name the place, I'll be there.
sounds nice. what kind of snacks should I bring for you?
[ Bucky might not have a ton of money right now, but he's used to making it stretch and sharing with friends is a high priority for him. Always has been. ]
[Fuck, that was rich. I trust you. Someday, he knew Barnes was going to eat those words like the bitter pill they were. He might even enjoy it when it happened. A little.]
Sure, I need a few hours myself. You got cards or should I hunt them down myself?
[ Realistically, Bucky means he trusts Brock with snacks. If he's honest, he doesn't really trust anyone other than Steve and Peggy and maybe River all that much, but Brock at least seems to understand some things that most people don't. ]
[Rumlow wasn't about to look that gift horse in the mouth, so he carried on, found himself a place to freshen up and went to the market with his limited funds. He did odd jobs where he could and was getting more with the relief effort, but this was an interesting situation to be in with the Winter Soldier actually... wanting to spend time with him. It was mind blowing if he was being honest with himself.
He grabbed some snacks, keeping himself to dried fruit such as this place's equivalent of apples, bananas, pears and something that might be a strawberry? He also grabbed a little trail mix, something that would keep him going on his own as he moved around.
Once he had reasonable supplies and his clothing had dried, he headed up to the satellite to find a room, texting the number to the Winter Soldier but settling in. He figured the guy would come whenever, and he would catch kip to two on a real bed for once. Whatever, the door was open, so just come in.]
[ Bucky washes the plaster dust from his hair and digs out some clean clothes. Everything he has is casual and soft. Without having to worry about any sort of dress code, he's opted for comfort on every purchase he's managed to afford. Still, he's wearing long sleeves. Even if the metal hand is visible, it's a lot less obvious than the whole arm being out.
He finds something that passes for a potato chip and makes a few sandwiches and packs them into a small bag with the cards. The nice thing about living with Steve and Peggy is that he really hasn't had to worry about money and what little he's made, he's been able to spend on himself.
When he finds the door, he knocks and pushes the door open. ]
[He was used to sleeping where he could, when he could. It was one of the first tricks that he learned after running away from home, and it served him well throughout his life. He was also a light sleeper because of it, so the knock on the door woke him easily.
Rumlow opened his eyes and turned his head in time to see the Winter Soldier push into the room, and he could recall a time when such a scene would draw him immediately to his feet in anticipation of pushing the world forever forward to that necessary forced peace. This time, he wiggled on the bed and then sat up slowly, stretching his arms and rolling his shoulders a moment later.]
Fancy meeting you in a place like this. Come on in, place is ours for some hours.
[He rose to his feet, and he gestured to the table that he had set up his own snacks and had a big bottle of water.]
[ Bucky smiles as he goes to add his own snacks to the table. It's a lot easier to find his way around the ship when the doors aren't dumping him in the wrong place half the time. ]
I hope you weren't waiting too long.
[ Since he apparently felt the need to nap while he was waiting for Bucky.
He pulls out the deck of cards and puts that on the table, too. They're worn in and instead of a box, they're held together by a hair tie, but Bucky made sure the deck wasn't missing anything. ]
[He moved after Barnes with his usual swagger, no longer hidden in winter clothing where they had first met in person on this planet. He noted the cards and seated himself again, folding his hands behind his head.]
Not that long, just enough to catch a few winks. Gotta get it where and when we can, right?
[He nodded his chin towards the cards.]
Those look well used. If you put the hair tie on, I'll consider it another piece of clothing I have to win off of you.
[ Bucky's movements are less stiff today. Maybe without the gun and he need to watch his back, he's a little more relaxed.
He sits across from Brock and pulls the hair tie off of the cards, pushing the deck across the table. Then he starts to pull his hair back into a loose ponytail with a cheesy grin. He's already got several layers on and he doesn't care if that's cheating. ]
You can try.
[ When he's done, a few strands fall loose, but most of it stays where it is. ]
Been a while, but I think I used to be good at this.

Fine, I won't tell you.

you think privacy in the military is rough? try having three nosy sisters.
[ Not that he'd had a ton of privacy during the war, either. ]
security it is. so where are you now? someplace warmer, I hope.

[He just plain had 0 shame, so he was fine making do wherever, whenever it was appropriate.]
Currently in Olympia, but I'll probably move on soon.

[ Parks. Rooftops. Bucky had been a creative guy. ]
hope you weren't going to leave without letting me buy you a drink.
no subject
[He was ever the realist.]
Not a big drinker, I'm afraid. Job never allowed me the liberty, since I was on call a lot. I guess I could watch you drink.
no subject
[ He's honestly not sure he could do that kind of dumb shit now, though. ]
nah that's not fun. I have the tolerance of a bear, anyway. cards?
no subject
[Rumlow could. And would. Probably has. Of course, he was laughing at the claim to having high alcohol tolerance. Didn't he just know it.]
Lucky you. I'm a light weight, and I'm unbearable. [See what he did there?] I'd be down for cards. I have a mean poker face. Friendly or wagers?

As for place, we can borrow a room on the station.
[Keeps him from having to admit he does live anywhere.]

It is a nice view. Plus you can have a beer and some snacks or something. It will be a veteran's party.

[Rumlow hasn't taken hand-outs ever. He's got too much pride to start now. He'd rather take a building in the face. Again.]

[ He should probably shower after a day of moving heavy things around and getting rubble in his hair. ]

I have cards. I'll see you later.
